Core aeration, is the mechanical removal of soil and thatch in the form of 1/2" diameter
cores, which provides many direct and indirect benefits. Aeration is one
of the only ways to cultivate an established lawn.
Research has shown that either a compacted or thatch infested turf area will benefit
more from AERATION than from any other individual treatment. AERATION is
recommended twice a year until compaction and thatch are under control,
then once a year should be sufficient.
-
AERATION allows air and water to penetrate through the layers of the soil,
thus, encouraging the development of micro-organisms that literally feed
on thatch, decreasing the thatch content and increasing top soil.
-
AERATION provides an excellent seed bed by allowing the seed to reach the
soil for proper germination. This seeding method is especially good when
over-seeding an established lawn.
-
AERATION provides an excellent opportunity to incorporate soil amendments
such as lime and gypsum.
-
AERATION relieves compaction caused by pounding rains breaking up soil
particles causing the soil peds to pack tighter together forcing out air.
-
AERATION reduces the likelihood of stress and disease by allowing the root
system to go deeper, keeping the plant healthier and the plant more stable
all season.
-
AERATION relieves compaction caused by foot traffic, children, pets, or
machine routes.
-
AERATION provides better utilization of fertilizers and insecticides by
allowing these applications to access the root zone for proper uptake.
