Mixes A superior stand of grass requires diversity. A lawn comprised of only one species or cultivar of grass is much more susceptible to disease, insect, and drought stress. Why is diversity important? All seed of a given cultivar is virtually identical producing identical plants. Since the plants are identical, they respond identically to stress, expressing the same characteristics. Diversity in grass planting results in non-identical plants that will not be affected by stress in the same way and will not show the effects of stress across the whole turf area. Thus, diversity in lawn seed planting will keep your lawn looking its best season long, regardless of the stresses applied by mother nature. To Insure Diversity Struyk Turf offers 2 custom seed mixes. Each seed mix is suited for specific conditions in your lawn. STRUYK'S SUN & SHADE MIX is an all-purpose blend of premium bluegrasses and disease resistant perennial ryegrasses. Our most popular mix is ideal for areas of full sunlight to moderate shade. Available in 5# bags either applied or delivered. STRUYK'S SUPER TURF FESCUE MIX is a hearty blend of the best dwarf turf-type tall fescues with Kentucky bluegrass and perennial rye. This mix is ideal for high traffic areas and performs well in full shade to full sun. Available in 5# bags either applied or delivered. Fall is the best time to seed due to mild temperatures and greater moisture. Fall overseeding is most effective when complemented by fall aeration. Aeration and overseeding at the same time ensures proper seed/soil contact for better seed germination. Seed and fertilizer fall into the aeration holes where temperatures are mild and moisture collects helping seed to germinate quicker and fill in bare spots. Overseeding Recommendations: Sun and Shade: 1-2 pounds per 1000 ft2 on established turf. Super Turf II: 2-3 pounds per 1000 ft2 on established turf. Shur Shot Mix is our top disease resistant mix including strong resistance to summer Patch, our areas most aggressive and damaging fungal disease. Perfect for full sun to partial shade. Available in 5 pound bags either applied or delivered.
